Decide which side of the helmet you wish to fit the cutaway to, we are demonstrating fitting to the right side. Using a 10mm drill to open up the ratchet strap hole then gently file the hole with a round file until the bush is a press fit.

The fit of the bush needs to be tight so that it stays in place on the inside wall of the helmet.

Take the ratchet strap and place the spring retainer cup with the small end of the spring facing upwards.

Place the cutaway pin through the spring and ratchet strap.

Align the ratchet strap and cutaway parts with the helmet bush.

Holding the ratchet strap in place on the outside of the helmet, align the nylon washer on the inside so that the cutaway pin will be able to fit through the hole in the washer.
Apply some pressure on the cutaway pin to compress the spring, the pin should now be protruding through the washer. Keeping the pressure on the pin, feed the cutaway cable through the hole in the end of the pin until the cutaway handle is level with the bottom edge of the helmet shell.
With the liner back in place the Velcro on the cutaway handle should sit neatly between the helmet wall and the liner with the handle set so as to allow you to operate the cutaway easily.

You should now have a fully operational cutaway, to test its operation place the helmet on your head adjust the ratchet chin cup so that it’s central to your chin and pull on the handle. Once the cable has been pulled clear of the pin, the spring will eject the pin. If the pin stays in place, a small amount of chin movement will be enough to free it.

* Please be aware this system is designed to eject the pin, so when testing the operation it is advisable to have somebody with a small box or container to catch the moving parts as they break free of the helmet* If you have a question relating to this please email us at info@2kcomposites.com
